A 'Portfolio' is a core collection of your strongest work for sending out to agents, showing at book fairs, and sharing on social media. Whether this is your first portfolio, or you are an experienced illustrator, Alice Tait can help take your work to the next level.
Alice Tait has written and illustrated children's books which have been published in the UK and USA, and is now available to share her first-hand experience with you.
By the end of the session you will have a tailored plan of the next steps on your portfolio. *
The hour typically covers:
- A review of your work.
- Help choosing your strongest work, or ideas for building up your portfolio with new pieces.
- Length of portfolio: ideally, a final portfolio will have around 25 images**. Alice can help you decide which illustrations to keep, remove or refresh.
- Subject-matter and categories. Alice can advise on what clients will be looking for in such areas as children, animals, non-fiction and black-and-white.
- Running order. The order in which you show your work can make or break a portfolio! Alice can show you how to keep clients engaged till the very last page.
* The session is free-flow and will be tailored to your own needs. Alice will give you tasks to complete to help develop your portfolio, which can be done in your own time after the session. If you would like Alice to review your updated portfolio, a follow-up session can be booked.
**This session is best suited to illustrators who already have at least ten pieces to form the start of their portfolio. If you still need to build up more illustrations, then choosing a mentoring session would be best for you, where Alice can give you guidance on subject-matter, and inspire places to get started.
